Happy new year! Before you add fresh content to your Web site this year, consider an update to your copyright date.
According to the United States Copyright Office, your work is protected from “the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form.” Although a copyright notice is no longer required, you may find it helpful should legal action be required. (Please consult with your attorney. I am not a legal representative.)
You may list a range of dates to include the first and last year in which material used on your Web site was created. For example, if your Web site includes content you produced in 2009 as well as graphics you designed in 2006 but added to your site in 2007, your copyright notice would look like this: © 2006-2009 Your Name. All rights reserved.
